NBC to Air 50th Anniversary of ‘Jaws’ With Introduction by Spielberg and Special Events

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1975 classic ‘Jaws,’ NBC will broadcast a special three-hour screening of the film on June 20, exactly 50 years after its original release. The event will feature a newly recorded introduction by director Steven Spielberg. This is part of a larger NBCUniversal campaign to celebrate the film’s legacy.

In collaboration with Major League Baseball, NBCUniversal is organizing in-stadium celebrations across several cities, including themed home games for the San Francisco Giants, New York Yankees, and Philadelphia Phillies from June 20 to 22. These events will include custom scoreboard content, giveaways, and additional fan engagement.

For home viewers, the entire ‘Jaws’ film series will stream exclusively on Peacock until July 14. A special Peacock row titled “Trouble in the Water” will include similarly themed movies like ‘Piranha,’ ’47 Meters Down,’ ‘Night Swim,’ and ‘Captain Phillips.’

Additionally, Universal Pictures Home Entertainment will release a 50th anniversary edition of ‘Jaws’ on June 17 in various formats, including a new documentary titled ‘Jaws @ 50: The Definitive Story.’ The doc is produced in collaboration with National Geographic, Spielberg’s Amblin Documentaries, and other partners. New merchandise in areas such as fashion and collectibles will also launch to support the celebration.
