Renee Zellweger’s Animated Short to Premiere at Edinburgh Film Festival

Renee Zellweger’s debut as a filmmaker, an animated short titled ‘They,’ is set to premiere at the Edinburgh Film Festival. The nine-minute film, which is part of a program of animation shorts, will be screened at various cinemas in Edinburgh, including Cameo, Filmhouse, and Vue in August. The plot revolves around a hero’s journey for peace that takes an unexpected turn, with drastic consequences. Festival director Paul Ridd expressed excitement about the premiere, emphasizing the honor of showcasing Zellweger’s first film. Zellweger’s producer approached the festival early in the process, and the team was immediately captivated by the animation. Although it’s unclear if Zellweger herself will attend the premiere, announcements about guests will follow soon. This marks the second year of the festival’s relaunch under Ridd’s leadership, after overcoming significant challenges. The festival will feature films from various countries, including Scotland, Ireland, Croatia, and Australia, and will introduce new venues such as the Hawthornden Theatre. In addition to Zellweger’s film, the festival will also showcase the world premiere of Ben Wheatley’s ‘Bulk’ and the black comedy ‘Sorry Baby.’ The event will conclude with a documentary about Irvine Welsh, ‘Reality is Not Enough,’ and will host discussions, including a session with filmmakers Andrew and Kevin Macdonald.
