Patriot Earns ₹16.15 Crore in Two Days Despite Second-Day Drop, Ranks Fourth Among Malayalam Films of 2026

The Malayalam spy action thriller Patriot, starring Mohanlal and Mammootty, experienced a significant drop in box office collections on its second day after a strong opening. The film debuted with an impressive ₹10 crore net on its first day in India, benefiting from strong pre-sales and a holiday release. However, on its first Saturday, collections declined by approximately 38.5%, earning an estimated ₹6.15 crore. This drop has been attributed largely to mixed reviews and audience feedback, which slowed the film’s momentum after its initial success.

Despite this decline, Patriot has performed solidly overall in its opening weekend. The film’s total earnings after two days stand at approximately ₹16.15 crore net, equivalent to about ₹19.05 crore gross. This performance has allowed it to secure a notable position in the Malayalam film industry’s 2026 rankings.

With its current total, Patriot has become the fourth highest-grossing Malayalam (Mollywood) film of the year in India, surpassing Chatha Pacha: The Ring Of Rowdies, which earned ₹16 crore net. The film is expected to climb further in the rankings and potentially overtake Bharathanatyam 2 Mohiniyattam, which currently holds the third position with ₹23.94 crore.

Directed by Mahesh Narayan, known for films like C U Soon and Malik, Patriot features a strong ensemble cast including Fahadh Faasil, Kunchacko Boban, Nayanthara, and Revathi. Reportedly made on a budget of ₹125 crore, it is among the most expensive Malayalam films to date. The film was released in theaters on May 1 and continues to draw attention for its box office performance despite mixed reception.
