‘Wednesday’ Season 2 Review: More of the Same with a Less Focused Narrative

The second season of ‘Wednesday’ on Netflix follows the titular character, played by Jenna Ortega, as she navigates new mysteries at Nevermore Academy. However, unlike the first season, this return feels overstuffed with too many characters and subplots, resulting in a less compelling narrative. The storyline revolves around a new series of murders in the nearby town of Jericho, but despite Wednesday’s psychic powers and crime-solving skills, the season lacks the charm and uniqueness of the debut. The Addams family, now more involved in the storyline, has diminished the show’s original appeal, shifting the focus away from Ortega’s standout performance. The season struggles to find balance, with many characters, such as Pugsley and even Uncle Fester, failing to add depth to the story. While the production design remains impressive, the lack of contrast and absence of memorable moments, like the iconic dance scene from season one, make the second season a disappointing follow-up.
