While dangling from a biplane and holding onto a seatbelt strap, Cruise experienced severe physical strain, including the separation of joints in his fingers due to the immense force. McQuarrie explained that by the end of the stunt, Cruise’s hands were severely swollen, emphasizing the excruciating pain the actor endured. Cruise himself commented that the stunt nearly broke his back and described it as ‘brutal.’ Despite the intense pain, the film, which marks what is being touted as Cruise’s final appearance in the franchise, performed exceptionally well at the box office.
