First Look at Sophie Turner as Lara Croft in Amazon’s Upcoming Tomb Raider Series

Amazon MGM Studios has released the first photo of British actress Sophie Turner in her new role as Lara Croft for the upcoming Prime Video television adaptation of ‘Tomb Raider’. Turner, best known for portraying Sansa Stark in ‘Game of Thrones’ and Jean Grey in the ‘X-Men’ films, was announced as the series’ lead in September 2025. The show has now officially entered production. The photo shows Turner wearing Lara Croft’s classic green tank top and brown shorts, directly inspired by the character’s original appearance in the 1990s PlayStation games.

The new series, written by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, will reinterpret the iconic archaeologist’s adventures that have captivated audiences since the franchise’s debut in 1996. ‘Tomb Raider’ follows in the footsteps of previous portrayals by Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander, both of whom brought their own version of Lara to the big screen. The series joins a growing trend of video game adaptations finding success on streaming platforms, including Amazon’s hit ‘Fallout’ and the upcoming ‘God of War’ project starring Ryan Hurst.

Alongside Turner, the cast includes Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, and Celia Imrie, promising a strong ensemble. The article notes that such adaptations often boost interest in the related video games. Current developer Crystal Dynamics recently announced two new ‘Tomb Raider’ titles: a remake of the original game with modernized visuals and gameplay, and a new adventure set in Northern India. With this fresh interpretation and Turner’s involvement, ‘Tomb Raider’ seems poised to revive one of gaming’s most enduring legends for a new generation.
