‘Rust’ Crew Reaches Settlement Over Fatal Shooting Incident Involving Alec Baldwin

A settlement has been reached in a civil lawsuit involving the fatal shooting on the set of the movie ‘Rust’. The lawsuit, filed by three crew members, accused the film’s producers—including co-producer and lead actor Alec Baldwin—of negligence, claiming they failed to adhere to safety protocols. The shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins during a rehearsal in October 2021 left her dead and director Joel Souza injured. Although Baldwin faced charges of involuntary manslaughter, they were dropped due to issues with evidence disclosure by authorities. Meanwhile, ‘Rust’ armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed was convicted of involuntary manslaughter after bringing live ammunition onto the set and violating safety guidelines. The terms of the settlement remain undisclosed, and representatives for the producers and plaintiffs have not commented. The film’s production, which had been halted after the tragedy, was completed in Montana and released in theaters in May 2025.
