Patrick Murray, known for his role in Only Fools and Horses, dies at 68

Patrick Murray, widely recognized for his role as Mickey Pearce in the BBC comedy series Only Fools and Horses, has passed away at the age of 68 in Rochester, Kent. Murray appeared in 20 episodes of the iconic show between 1983 and 2003, acting alongside David Jason and Nicholas Lyndhurst. His career also included appearances in the 1979 films Quadrophenia and Scum, the 1990s sitcom The Upper Hand, as well as television programs like The Bill, ITV Playhouse, and Bergerac. Co-star Sue Holderness, who portrayed Marlene, expressed her condolences on social media, highlighting the impact Murray had on colleagues and fans alike. Murray had been battling cancer since July 2021. He initially underwent surgery to remove a lung tumor in early stages, followed by chemotherapy, and later discovered a treatable liver tumor. By May 2022, his oncologist confirmed his lung cancer was cured and the liver tumor was shrinking, though by April 2023, his lung cancer had returned. The BBC issued a statement mourning Murray’s passing and extended sympathies to his family and friends. His work left a lasting impression on British television comedy and he will be remembered fondly by both audiences and colleagues.
