Bagpuss Returns in a New Film, Staying True to the Original Charm

A new Bagpuss film is set to hit theaters in 2027, with the production company Threewise Entertainment promising to remain faithful to the beloved 1970s children’s series. Michael Ford, CEO of the Birmingham-based company, emphasized that his approach is to preserve the essence of the original show while exploring new adventures for the iconic saggy cloth cat. Ford worked closely with Daniel Postgate, the son of Bagpuss’s creator Oliver Postgate, who fully supported the vision for the new film. The original show, which aired in 1974, featured a pink-and-white cat that came to life when it woke up in a shop window. The film will blend live action with animation, offering a fresh perspective on Bagpuss. Ford highlighted the authenticity of the original production, which used models rather than CGI, helping the characters feel real. The new film will give Bagpuss a more adventurous role, shifting from his traditional role as a storyteller to an active participant in the action. Fans of the original series will get to relive the magic with a new generation of viewers.
