Darth Vader’s Lightsaber Breaks Records at Auction, Selling for £2.7 Million

A lightsaber used by Darth Vader in the original Star Wars films has fetched a record-breaking £2.7 million ($3.6 million) at an auction in Los Angeles. This iconic prop, featured in ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ and ‘Return of the Jedi,’ was the highlight of the auction’s first day, becoming the highest-priced Star Wars memorabilia ever sold. The auction was conducted by Propstore, a Buckinghamshire-based company specializing in film and television memorabilia. According to Propstore COO Brandon Alinger, the sale of this lightsaber marks a momentous occasion for both Star Wars fans and collectors, underscoring the franchise’s enduring cultural significance. The prop was used in filming at Elstree Studios in Hertfordshire, one of the most famous film production sites in the UK. While many of the auction lots were connected to UK productions, other notable items included Harrison Ford’s whip, belt, and holster from ‘Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade,’ which sold for $485,100, and a Platform 9 3/4 sign from the Harry Potter films, which exceeded expectations, selling for $138,600. This auction not only sets a new benchmark for film memorabilia sales but also highlights the passionate global fandom that continues to support iconic cinematic history.
