Review: Rajkummar Rao shines in Hindi comedy ‘Toaster’

The Hindi film ‘Toaster’, directed by Vivek Daschaudhary and streaming on Netflix, is a comedy centred around Ramakant (Rajkummar Rao), a man known for his extreme stinginess. He is obsessed with getting the most out of every situation, from saving small amounts of money to insisting on retrieving a toaster given as a wedding gift after a marriage is called off. His miserly antics, while causing embarrassment to his wife Shilpa (Sanya Malhotra), form the heart of the film’s humour. The toaster, now in the possession of D’Souza’s son Glen (Abhishek Banerjee), inadvertently becomes linked to a murder, involving a police inspector, a government minister, and a quirky neighbour Malini (Archana Puran Singh). The film thrives on absurd situations and exaggerated characters, with dialogue reflecting a light-hearted tone.
