Disney develops Tinker Bell live-action TV series for streaming

Disney is reviving its plans for a live-action Tinker Bell series, now titled ‘Tink’, set to appear on the company’s streaming platform. The project will be helmed by Liz Heldens and Bridget Carpenter, who previously collaborated on Friday Night Lights. Tinker Bell, a character created by J.M. Barrie in his 1904 Peter Pan play and later popularised by Disney’s 1953 animated feature, has previously appeared in live-action films, including portrayals by Julia Roberts, Ludivine Sagnier, and Yara Shahidi. Disney has made several attempts to launch a live-action Tinker Bell project, including earlier efforts with Elizabeth Banks and Reese Witherspoon, both of which did not come to fruition. The move comes amid Disney’s broader live-action strategy, which has seen successes such as Alice in Wonderland, The Lion King, and more recently, the Lilo & Stitch remake, which surpassed $1 billion in box office revenue. Disney is also pursuing other live-action or CGI projects, including Moana, Bambi, Hercules, Cruella 2, and a Gaston spin-off, indicating the studio’s continued commitment to revitalising its animated classics for both streaming and cinematic releases.
