Deadloch season two filmed in Northern Territory with new characters, crocs and comedy

The Emmy-nominated Australian crime comedy series Deadloch is back for its second season, relocating from Tasmania to the Northern Territory. Co-creators Kate McCartney and Kate McLennan discovered a wealth of colourful characters, comic scenarios and local quirks upon arriving in Darwin, including several croc tours that inspired both humour and plot points. Season two follows detectives Dulcie and Eddie as they investigate mysteries in Barra Creek, a small town whose main industry is crocodile tours. The series blends comedy with serious crime storytelling, tackling complex issues such as the territory’s history of law enforcement and racially skewed tough-on-crime laws. The production transformed the town of Batchelor into the fictional Barra Creek, adding red dirt, sun-bleached signage, and a cast of locals. While the show retains its trademark dark humour, the tone has shifted from the moody ‘Tassie noir’ of the first season to a sunnier, almost spaghetti western style. Alongside the comedy, the series incorporates social commentary on Indigenous experiences, law enforcement, and local politics. Crocodiles remain a running gag, with one named Triple-pet featured in the season’s overlapping mysteries. Deadloch season two will stream globally on Prime Video from 20 March.
