Holy Innocents Church in Epping Forest Hosts Filming of Knives Out Sequel

Holy Innocents Church in High Beach, Epping Forest, became a filming location for ‘Wake Up Dead Man,’ the latest installment of the popular Knives Out film series. The church, built in 1873 and home to around 60 parishioners, doubled as a neo-gothic church in upstate New York. The vicar, Reverend Jane Yeadon, ensured she could be present on set to protect the church and its surroundings, while also fulfilling her fan aspirations. During the summer 2024 shoot, the normally quiet church grounds became unexpectedly busy, with stars including Daniel Craig, Glenn Close, and Mila Kunis present. Some humorous incidents occurred, such as Kunis mistaking the vicar for an extra. Beyond the excitement, the production brought economic benefits, contributing over £1.3 million to the local economy through catering, travel, and accommodation, and funding needed repairs to the Grade II-listed building. Locals also shared ghost stories from Epping Forest, adding an eerie backdrop to the filming. With the film’s release scheduled for 12 December on Netflix and in cinemas, the region may see increased ‘screen tourism.’ Reverend Yeadon expressed her anticipation for seeing the final film and her curiosity about correctly guessing the movie’s murderer during the shoot.
