Welsh actor Gerran Howell, who portrays fourth-year medical student Dennis Whitaker in the popular HBO medical drama The Pitt, has gained a newfound respect for the medical profession after participating in the show’s highly realistic production. The series, set in a busy Pittsburgh emergency department, emphasizes medical accuracy with a dedicated team of advisers guiding the cast through procedures. Howell described an intense boot camp where actors viewed graphic videos of real medical scenarios and learned every detail of instruments and techniques. He noted that trauma scenes involve careful choreography, and the medical jargon can be challenging at times.
