Neil Druckmann Steps Down from HBO’s The Last of Us Series Ahead of Season 3

Neil Druckmann, co-creator of ‘The Last of Us,’ has announced his departure from the HBO adaptation of the series before work on Season 3 begins. Druckmann and Halley Gross, both key figures in the creative development of the show, have decided to step back from the series. Druckmann explained that he would now focus on new projects at Naughty Dog, including the upcoming game ‘Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet,’ while continuing his roles as Studio Head and Head of Creative. Gross also hinted at future creative projects as she transitions out of her day-to-day responsibilities on the show. Both creators have been integral in adapting the ‘Last of Us’ games into the HBO series, with Druckmann directing, writing, and co-producing both seasons. While the series has been praised for its adaptation of the first two games, their departure leaves showrunner Craig Mazin to lead the way for Season 3.
