Marvel Postpones Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars to Late 2026 and 2027

Marvel Studios has delayed the release dates of its next two major Avengers films: ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars.’ Originally scheduled for May 2026 and May 2027 respectively, both films have been rescheduled for December of their respective years. The changes were announced on May 22, with ‘Doomsday’ now set for December 18, 2026, and ‘Secret Wars’ for December 17, 2027. These movies mark the return of the Russo Brothers to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as directors for the first time since ‘Avengers: Endgame’ (2019). Robert Downey Jr. is also making a surprising comeback as Doctor Doom, supported by a large ensemble cast. In addition, Disney made adjustments to its release calendar, reclassifying several ‘Untitled Marvel’ projects to ‘Untitled Disney’ projects, effectively reducing Marvel’s film slate. This shift leaves a significant gap between ‘The Fantastic 4: First Steps’ and the next Spider-Man movie, ‘Brand New Day,’ scheduled for July 31, 2026—marking the longest break between Marvel films since the COVID-19 pandemic. Marvel still holds three potential release slots in 2028, although speculation about which characters or films might occupy them remains uncertain.
