This sentiment is amplified for women in male-dominated industries, where seeking help can be seen as a lack of preparation. Director David Michod, who worked on the film, noted that his wife Mirrah Foulkes has had similar experiences in the industry. The film ‘Christy’ delves into Martin’s remarkable career in boxing, as well as her personal struggles, including being a closeted gay woman and enduring domestic violence. Despite a lukewarm reception at the US box office, Sweeney defended the film’s artistic and impactful nature over its commercial performance. ‘Christy’ is set for release in the UK and Ireland on November 28th, 2025.
