Review of ZEE5 Marathi Horror Series ‘Andhar Maya’ Set in Konkan

‘Andhar Maya’ is ZEE5’s first Marathi horror series, set in the scenic Konkan region of Western India. The show follows an extended family visiting their ancestral home to observe death rites of a recently deceased elder and discuss the sale of the property. Long-time housekeeper Gonya, played by Kishor Kadam, is pleased to see the family together but hints at the lingering supernatural presence. The family members are divided over selling the property, while tensions among cousins escalate over old grievances and inheritance matters. The series begins with numerous jump scares, strange events, and uneven camera work, which may feel overwhelming initially. However, by the fifth episode, the story gains momentum as a malevolent spirit starts targeting the family members one by one, evoking a suspense similar to Agatha Christie’s ‘And Then There Were None’. The final episodes bring clarity to the mystery while highlighting the destructive influence of greed. Performances vary, but Kishor Kadam shines as the enigmatic Gonya, balancing authority and ambiguity perfectly. Overall, the show combines supernatural horror with family drama and offers an engaging experience for fans of Marathi content.
