Chewbacca’s Bowcaster and Luke Skywalker’s Medal Sell for Over $1 Million at Auction

Chewbacca’s iconic bowcaster from the original Star Wars trilogy fetched over $750,000 at auction, significantly exceeding its estimated value. The modified Horton crossbow, a key element in the first three Star Wars films (1977-1983), was sold by Propstore, who noted some components were recreated. Meanwhile, Luke Skywalker’s ‘Medal of Yavin’ from Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, awarded by Princess Leia for his role in destroying the Death Star, sold for more than $370,000. This medal, believed to have been worn by Harrison Ford during rehearsals, came from props master Gerard Bourke’s collection and is considered the first and only medal offered for public sale. The combined sales of the bowcaster and medal totaled $1,146,600. Brandon Alinger, Propstore’s chief operating officer, expressed excitement about the auction’s success, emphasizing the enduring popularity of the Star Wars franchise. The Star Wars franchise, filmed at Elstree Studios, remains popular, with spin-off shows like The Mandalorian and Andor.
