Spaceballs 2 Begins Production with Return of Rick Moranis and Full Cast Reveal

Amazon MGM Studios confirmed the start of production for the long-awaited sequel to the 1987 sci-fi comedy Spaceballs. The sequel, titled Spaceballs 2, marks the return of Rick Moranis as Dark Helmet, a character he had retired from after a hiatus in 1997 following the death of his wife. The news is accompanied by a behind-the-scenes photo of the cast performing a table read of the script, which humorously mirrors a famous 2014 photo of the Star Wars: The Force Awakens cast. In addition to Moranis, Mel Brooks, Daphne Zuniga, and Bill Pullman will reprise their roles as Yogurt, Princess Vespa, and Lone Starr, respectively. The film also introduces new characters played by Josh Gad, Keke Palmer, Anthony Carrigan, and others. Directed by Josh Greenbaum, the film is set to hit theaters in 2027. Moranis’ return to acting has excited fans, as he has been selectively returning to the spotlight with roles in voice acting and special appearances, including a 2020 Mint Mobile commercial with Ryan Reynolds. The sequel will be produced by Imagine Entertainment, alongside Mel Brooks and other producers. Fans are eager to see how the comedic universe of Spaceballs expands with this new addition.
