Aaron Sorkin to Write and Direct ‘Social Network’ Sequel Inspired by The Facebook Files

A sequel to the 2010 hit film *The Social Network* is officially in the works, with Aaron Sorkin returning as the screenwriter and director. This time, the story will shift focus from the early creation of Facebook to exploring the platform’s darker consequences, drawing inspiration from ‘The Facebook Files,’ a series of investigative articles by Jeff Horwitz published by *The Wall Street Journal* in 2021. These articles delve into Facebook’s role in spreading misinformation and causing harm, such as its involvement in the January 6 Capitol riots. While it’s unclear whether Jesse Eisenberg will reprise his Oscar-nominated role as Mark Zuckerberg, the original film’s cultural influence remains significant. The first *Social Network* won three Academy Awards, including Best Adapted Screenplay for Sorkin, and grossed over $226 million worldwide. Sorkin has long expressed interest in writing a sequel, citing Facebook’s ongoing issues as a source of inspiration.
