Richard Dreyfuss Cancels SharkCon Appearance Due to Viral Illness

Richard Dreyfuss, the actor known for his role in the classic film ‘Jaws,’ was forced to cancel his appearance at SharkCon 2025 after being hospitalized with a viral illness. In a video shared from his hospital bed, Dreyfuss, 77, explained that he had been diagnosed with bronchitis and was advised by doctors not to travel. The actor expressed his regret to fans, noting that he was unable to attend the event at the Florida State Fairgrounds Expo in Tampa, which focused on shark and ocean conservation. He apologized for the inconvenience, emphasizing that his health had to come first. Dreyfuss also assured fans that he would return for future conventions and events. The convention organizers confirmed that refunds would be issued to those who pre-paid for autographs and photo ops with Dreyfuss. SharkCon, sponsored by National Geographic, was also a celebration of the 50th anniversary of ‘Jaws,’ with several other actors from the movie attending. Dreyfuss’ wife, Svetlana Erokhin, was also heard in the video offering words of support to fans. The actor, who portrayed marine biologist Matt Hooper in the film, expressed his gratitude to his dedicated followers and vowed to meet them in the future.
