Olivia Munn recently shared an awkward on-set experience involving a male co-star who resisted a scene where her character was meant to save his life. Appearing on ‘The Drew Barrymore Show,’ Munn explained that she has long committed to choosing roles where female characters act independently rather than relying on men. During filming for one of her projects, her male co-star objected to the scripted sequence after realizing she would be saving him from an attacker. The actor allegedly became combative with the director and delayed filming for nearly 45 minutes. To move things forward, Munn suggested rephrasing the scene so that both characters were simply switching sides, which appeased the co-star even though her actions remained unchanged. Munn described his behavior as ‘obnoxious’ and said the incident highlighted how ego and gender expectations still permeate Hollywood. She also revisited earlier experiences of challenging authority on set, such as disputes with a director from HBO’s ‘The Newsroom,’ who later questioned her professionalism. Now appearing in the Apple TV+ series ‘Your Friends & Neighbors’ with Jon Hamm, Munn discussed her goal of advocating for herself and other women in the industry. She emphasized that while she cannot change how women have been portrayed historically, she is determined to navigate such situations in ways that serve her best interests and promote respect for female actors.
