Pierce Brosnan Believes the Next James Bond Should Be British

Pierce Brosnan, the former James Bond actor, has stated in an interview with the Sunday Telegraph that the next Bond should be British. He also supports the decision to hand creative control of the franchise to Amazon MGM Studios, expressing hope that they will treat the character with respect and imagination. The search for Daniel Craig’s successor continues, with English actors James Norton, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Theo James among the frontrunners. While Bond has been portrayed by two non-British actors—Australian George Lazenby and Irishman Brosnan—the character has never been played by an American, despite past speculation involving actors like Clint Eastwood. Other non-British contenders include Irish actors Paul Mescal, Cillian Murphy, and Aidan Turner, as well as Australian Jacob Elordi. The transition of creative control follows Amazon’s acquisition of MGM, though long-time producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson remain co-owners. Brosnan, who starred as Bond from 1995 to 2002, reflected on his pride in being part of the franchise’s legacy. The timeline for the next Bond film remains unclear, and with production delays, it may surpass the longest gap between Bond movies, which currently stands at six years.
