Review: ‘Muthu Alias Kaattaan’ – A Slow-Paced Tamil Thriller Unfolds on JioHotstar

It’s not your typical fast-paced thriller; instead, it’s a leisurely burn, a bit like watching a really good, fragrant diya (candle) slowly melt. The story kicks off with a mysterious discovery – a headless body, identified as Muthu, perched atop a rock. This sets in motion an investigation led by Kalai Pandiyan, a police constable who’s more interested in keeping his station open than arresting criminals. The series then unravels Muthu’s complex past, revealing him to be a man with many lives and connections, including dealings with suave businessman Sivettan and his rival Johny in Kerala.

The narrative is deliberately meandering, drawing inspiration from Malayalam shows known for their extended storytelling.
