Michael Douglas Reflects on His Career, Shares Why He Has No Immediate Plans to Act Again

At the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, he revealed that unless a truly special project comes his way, he has no intention of returning to acting. Reflecting on his nearly 60-year career, Douglas emphasized that he has purposefully taken time off since 2022. He expressed concern about continuing to work without rest, citing his fear of being one of those actors who ‘dropped dead on the set.’ Douglas stated that while he is not technically retired, he is quite happy with his current break and enjoys watching his wife work instead. This comes after his previous comments about possibly returning for a good horror movie. Douglas also acknowledged his health challenges, particularly his battle with cancer in 2010, and how fortunate he felt to have continued working. At the festival, he is also presenting a newly restored version of the 1975 classic *One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest*, which he produced. For now, Douglas seems content to take a step back and reflect on his legacy, unless a truly remarkable role comes his way.
