Shane Meadows’ Film Pays Tribute to Skegness as a Holiday Destination

Shane Meadows, the acclaimed director known for films such as ‘This is England’ and ‘The Gallows Pole’, is working on a new road trip film titled ‘Chalk’, which will feature his deep personal connection to Skegness, a seaside town in the UK. The film tells the story of two girls travelling from Margate to Edinburgh. Meadows, who spent his childhood holidays in Skegness, described the area as his ‘favourite holiday resort’. In a recent conversation with local artist John Byford, Meadows revealed that the town would be the first place he wanted to film, saying he wanted to create a ‘visual love letter’ to Skegness. He shared that his fond memories of the town, where his family once owned a caravan, made him eager to return and film there. The crew has been spotted filming scenes including traditional donkey rides and shots of the town’s pier. Meadows expressed that if the film could premiere in Skegness, it would be his ‘proudest moment’. The upcoming film promises to capture the nostalgic charm of the town and the director’s personal connection to it, while also highlighting its beauty and significance in his life.
