Gina Carano, the actress known for her role as Cara Dune in Disney’s ‘The Mandalorian,’ has reached a settlement with Disney and Lucasfilm after filing a lawsuit for wrongful termination. Carano was fired in February 2021 following controversial social media posts in which she compared the political climate in the U.S. to Nazi-era treatment of Jewish people. Her dismissal was met with widespread backlash, and Disney stated that her posts were ‘abhorrent and unacceptable.’ Carano, however, filed a lawsuit, claiming that her firing was politically motivated and violated her rights to free speech. The lawsuit was financed by Elon Musk, whom Carano thanked publicly, despite the two never meeting in person. In her statement, Carano expressed gratitude to Musk and X (formerly Twitter) for their support, calling it a ‘Good Samaritan deed.’ Although the financial terms of the settlement were not disclosed, Carano had initially sought $75,000 in damages. In her social media post announcing the settlement, she also hinted at future opportunities in the arts. In response, Lucasfilm expressed respect for Carano’s professionalism on set and noted that they hoped to work with her again in the future.
