Alice Halsey Cast as Laura Ingalls in Netflix’s ‘Little House on the Prairie’ Reboot

Netflix has announced that Alice Halsey, a 10-year-old actress known for her roles in ‘Lessons in Chemistry’ and ‘Days of Our Lives,’ will play Laura Ingalls in the upcoming reboot of ‘Little House on the Prairie.’ The series, developed by showrunner Rebecca Sonnenshine and CBS Studios, aims to blend family drama with a survival story and an exploration of the American West’s origins. Laura Ingalls, the central character based on Laura Ingalls Wilder’s semi-autobiographical novels, represents a spirited, honest, and strong-willed child navigating the challenges and freedoms of 19th-century frontier life. The character is described as a disruptor and an American icon in the making, whose experiences reflect both the hardships and joys of growing up in a pioneering family. The original 1974 TV adaptation, starring Melissa Gilbert as Laura, remains popular with new audiences, recording over 13 billion streaming minutes on Peacock in 2024. Halsey’s casting marks the first confirmed role for the reboot. The creative team includes executive producers Joy Gorman Wettels, Trip Friendly, Dana Fox, and Susanna Fogel, with Sarah Adina Smith directing the pilot. Halsey began her acting career at age 7 and has since appeared in various television and voice roles. The enduring popularity of the ‘Little House’ novels, with over 73 million copies sold worldwide, underscores the anticipation for this new adaptation.
