Lily James Cast in Lead Role for Cliffhanger Remake with Pierce Brosnan

Lily James is set to star in a remake of the 1993 action thriller ‘Cliffhanger,’ originally starring Sylvester Stallone. The upcoming film will also feature Pierce Brosnan, who will play the father of two daughters running a chalet in the Italian Dolomites. When he and his youngest daughter are kidnapped, the eldest daughter (played by James) must confront her traumatic past as a mountaineer to save her family. This new iteration flips the gender dynamic of the original film, placing the daughter in the heroic role. The remake, directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, comes from a screenplay by Ana Lily Amirpour, Sascha Penn, Mark Bianculli, and Melanie Toast. Although the project is currently in postproduction, it is slated for release in 2026. The remake was announced following its sale at the Toronto International Film Festival and will take a new direction with its plot while retaining elements of the original’s action-packed suspense.
