Lilo & Stitch Surpasses Expectations with Record Memorial Day Box Office

Disney’s live-action remake of *Lilo & Stitch* is leading the Memorial Day weekend box office in the U.S., outpacing *Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning*. According to projections from Deadline, *Lilo & Stitch* is expected to gross between $170 million and $180 million across 4,410 theaters, breaking records previously held by *Top Gun: Maverick* for both the biggest Friday and overall Memorial Day weekend earnings. The film’s Friday alone brought in an estimated $56 to $59 million, surpassing Maverick’s $52 million Friday record in 2022.

One of the main factors behind its success is its appeal to a broader, family-oriented audience, thanks to its PG rating and shorter runtime compared to *Mission: Impossible*, which is rated PG-13 and shown in fewer theaters. Meanwhile, *Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning* is on track to make around $78 million from 3,857 venues, performing within industry expectations but well behind *Lilo & Stitch*.

Also in the box office top rankings are *Final Destination Bloodlines*, projected to finish third with $26 million, followed by *Thunderbolts* and *Sinners* at about $11 million each. Next weekend will see competition from *Karate Kid Legends*, featuring Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan.
