Vijay Deverakonda’s ‘Kingdom’ to Skip Hindi Theatrical Release in Favor of OTT

Vijay Deverakonda’s eagerly anticipated film ‘Kingdom’, directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, is set to release on July 31, 2025, but there will be no Hindi theatrical release. Although a Hindi teaser was released months ago, the makers have opted out of a theatrical release for the Hindi version, which had originally sparked hopes for a wide theatrical debut in India. Instead, reports suggest that the Hindi version of the film, titled ‘Saamraajya’, will be released directly on Netflix. The decision is based on multiple delays that reportedly impacted the film’s theatrical distribution and the complexities surrounding the release window for an OTT debut. As per industry reports, Netflix had initially signed a different deal with the makers of ‘Kingdom’ but later pushed for a quicker theatrical release due to delays. The absence of support from major multiplex chains and the rule requiring a minimum of eight weeks between a theatrical and OTT release led to the decision to go for a direct digital release for the Hindi version. As of now, the team has not provided an official statement, but this shift in strategy means that the focus will be on promoting the Telugu and Tamil versions to generate theater-going audiences.
