Karate Kid: Legends Debuts with $21M as Lilo & Stitch and Mission: Impossible Dominate Global Box Office

Karate Kid: Legends had a weaker-than-expected opening weekend at the North American box office, earning only $21 million from 3,809 theaters. Despite the presence of franchise veterans Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan, and a new lead played by Ben Wang, the film underperformed compared to projections of $25 million and earlier estimates of $35 million. Overseas, it grossed $26 million from 40% of the international market, reaching a global total of $47 million. The film received an A- CinemaScore and modest critical reception, suggesting it might have stronger legs in coming weeks, especially with a production budget of $45 million.

Meanwhile, Disney’s live-action Lilo & Stitch continued to lead the global box office, earning $63 million domestically and $113.1 million overseas in its second weekend, bringing its global total to $610 million. It’s now the second-highest-grossing film of 2025 behind Minecraft. Paramount’s Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning remained strong with $27.2 million domestically and a global cume of $353.8 million. Other notable entries include Final Destination: Bloodlines and horror film Bring Her Back. Wes Anderson’s indie film The Phoenician Scheme also saw strong per-location earnings in limited release.
