John Nolan, uncle of Christopher Nolan and actor in Batman Begins and The Dark Knight Rises, dies aged 87

John Nolan, a British actor and the paternal uncle of director Christopher Nolan and producer Jonathan Nolan, has died at the age of 87. Born in Kent, England, in 1938, Nolan enjoyed a long and varied career spanning stage, television, and film. He began performing in theatre with companies including the Richmond Theatre, Royal Court Company, and the Royal Shakespeare Company. His early television roles included the title part in the 1970 miniseries Daniel Deronda and appearances in Doomwatch and Shabby Tiger. Nolan collaborated with his nephew Christopher on several projects, starting with a role in the 1998 directorial debut Following. He later played Wayne Enterprises board member Douglas Fredericks in the 2005 blockbuster Batman Begins and reprised the character in the 2012 film The Dark Knight Rises, which was co-written by Jonathan Nolan. His final collaboration with Christopher Nolan came in the 2017 war epic Dunkirk. In addition, Nolan appeared in the CBS series Person of Interest, created by Jonathan.
