Jim Jarmusch Premieres ‘Father Mother Sister Brother’ at Venice Film Festival to Warm Reception

Independent filmmaker Jim Jarmusch unveiled his latest feature, ‘Father Mother Sister Brother,’ at the Venice Film Festival, where it received a six-and-a-half-minute standing ovation. This marks the first time one of Jarmusch’s films has competed at Venice, as his 2003 film ‘Coffee and Cigarettes’ was screened out of competition. The film is structured as a triptych, exploring relationships between adult children and their parents, with each segment set in a different country and taking place in the present. The ensemble cast includes notable actors such as Tom Waits, Adam Driver, Mayim Bialik, Charlotte Rampling, Cate Blanchett, Vicky Krieps, Sarah Greene, Indya Moore, Luka Sabbat, and Françoise Lebrun. The production is presented by Mubi, Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello, and The Apartment, alongside other collaborators. During a press conference, Jarmusch addressed questions about Mubi’s financial ties to Sequoia Capital and the controversy surrounding investments in Israeli defense-tech startups. While expressing disappointment about the situation, he emphasized that filmmakers should not bear the responsibility of responding on behalf of the distributor. After the premiere, Jarmusch was seen embracing his cast as the audience applauded. The film has generated early excitement and positive reception at Venice.
