Helen Mirren on James Bond: A Male Actor Should Continue the Role

Dame Helen Mirren, in a recent interview with Saga Magazine, emphasized that James Bond must remain a male character, despite being a strong feminist. She stated, ‘You can’t have a woman. It just doesn’t work,’ highlighting the importance of maintaining the legacy of the iconic character. Amazon MGM Studios, which will produce the next James Bond film, plans a ‘fresh’ take on the franchise, while respecting its legacy. Mirren, currently starring in ‘The Thursday Murder Club’ alongside former Bond actor Pierce Brosnan, expressed her belief that a male actor should continue the role of Bond. Brosnan, who portrayed 007 in four films, echoed Mirren’s opinion, adding that he’s excited to see new energy brought to the character. While Mirren and Brosnan both shared their views on the matter, others, including Halle Berry, have also commented on the idea of a female Bond. Although the franchise’s future remains uncertain, speculation continues around potential male actors for the role, with British actors Aaron Taylor-Johnson and James Norton being frontrunners. The upcoming James Bond film has yet to be given a release date.
