Lauren Lyle Discusses Her Role in BBC’s Psychological Thriller The Ridge

Scottish actress Lauren Lyle, known for roles in Outlander, Vigil, and Karen Pirie, stars in BBC’s new six-part psychological thriller, The Ridge. In the series, Lyle plays Mia Beaton, a drug-addicted anaesthetist whose childhood trauma has caught up with her. She travels to New Zealand for her estranged sister Cassy’s wedding, only to discover that Cassy has died from a fall off a mountain ridge. Convinced it was murder, Mia begins investigating her sister’s death, uncovering tensions between Cassy and local farmers, as well as complications in her relationship with her fiancé, Ewan, portrayed by Jay Ryan. As Mia digs deeper, her own struggles with opioid addiction, unresolved professional misconduct charges, and past trauma make the investigation increasingly difficult. Lyle was drawn to the antiheroic complexity of Mia and enjoyed pushing the character’s psychopathic tendencies. The series was directed by Robyn Grace and produced collaboratively by Glasgow’s Sinner Films and New Zealand’s Great Southern Studios. Filming in New Zealand, where Lyle spent formative years, added a personal connection and enjoyable work environment. The Ridge premieres on BBC iPlayer, BBC Scotland, and BBC Two.
