SAG Awards Rebranded as ‘The Actor Awards’ to Reflect Actors’ Focus

The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards, known for recognizing excellence in acting, has announced it will undergo a rebranding. From now on, the awards show will be called ‘The Actor Awards’ presented by Sag-Aftra, the labor union representing film, TV, and radio actors in the U.S. According to executive producer Jon Brockett, the new name aligns better with the show’s focus on honoring actors, as the statuette has always been called ‘The Actor.’ The name change also comes as the awards show aims to cater to its growing global audience, with more than 190 countries tuning in each year. Awards committee chair JoBeth Williams emphasized that the new name is more universally recognizable, as viewers will know they are watching a celebration of their favorite actors. The 32nd edition of the awards will be held on March 1, 2026. The rebranding also marks the recognition of the 2012 merger between SAG and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (Aftra), which now represents around 160,000 members. This shift follows recent leadership changes within the union, including the election of actor Sean Astin as its new leader.
