Emmy-nominated actor Harris Yulin, known for ‘Scarface’ and ‘Ghostbusters II,’ dies at 87

Harris Yulin, the Emmy-nominated actor celebrated for his versatile roles in films such as ‘Scarface,’ ‘Ghostbusters II,’ and ‘Clear and Present Danger,’ passed away at age 87 due to cardiac arrest on June 10 in New York City. A native of Los Angeles, Yulin began his career in New York City’s theater scene, making his Broadway debut in the 1980s and later starring in notable plays like ‘Watch on the Rhine,’ ‘The Price,’ and ‘Finishing the Picture.’ Beyond acting, he also directed several stage productions including ‘The Glass Menagerie.’ In cinema, Yulin was known for his dynamic range, performing in genres from gangster dramas to comedies. He also appeared in television series like ‘Ozark,’ ‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,’ and ‘Billions,’ earning an Emmy nomination in 1996 for his guest role on ‘Frasier.’ At the time of his passing, Yulin was preparing to film the series ‘American Classic’ with Michael Hoffman, who praised him as one of the greatest artists he had ever worked with. Yulin also contributed to the acting community through teaching at Juilliard and Columbia University. He is survived by his wife Kristen Lowman, among other family members.
