The latest installment in the Freaky Friday body-swap franchise, ‘Freakier Friday,’ brings a contemporary and zany twist to the classic formula. Jamie Lee Curtis delivers a standout, enthusiastic performance as Tess Coleman, a grandma, therapist, and parenting podcaster who swaps bodies with her daughter, Anna, played by Lindsay Lohan. This time, the story expands the chaos to include a total of four women involved in the body swap after an encounter with a fortune teller. While Lohan’s performance is competent, it is Curtis’s playful and uninhibited energy that truly elevates the film, making it enjoyable despite some uneven comedy from other cast members. The film focuses on light-hearted humor and avoids delving deeply into heavier themes like body image and identity, instead offering charming generational comedy and amusing gags, including social media jokes. Supporting roles from Vanessa Bayer, X Mayo, and others add flavor to the movie’s comedic spirit.
