HBO reveals first image of Harry Potter TV series as production kicks off

Production has officially begun for HBO’s highly anticipated TV adaptation of the Harry Potter series, with the first image of 11-year-old Dominic McLaughlin in costume as Harry Potter now revealed. The series, which will span a decade, is expected to delve deeper into the novels’ storylines than the previous film adaptations. Along with McLaughlin, several new cast members were confirmed, including Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom, Amos Kitson as Dudley Dursley, and Louise Brealey as Madam Rolanda Hooch. Other major stars such as John Lithgow (Dumbledore), Nick Frost (Hagrid), Janet McTeer (McGonagall), and Paapa Essiedu (Severus Snape) are also part of the ensemble. The series is being filmed at Warner Bros Studios Leavesden, the same location where the original Harry Potter films were made. Producers emphasized that the show will remain faithful to the books while offering more room for character and plot development. The first season of the series is expected to launch in 2027. Several new production staff have been recruited, including Adriano Goldman (director of photography) and Cate Hall (hair and makeup), both known for their work on The Crown.
