Filmhouse and Care4Her train women in cinematography through hands-on Lagos programme

Filmhouse Group, in partnership with Care4Her Initiative, don successfully complete one five-day cinematography training programme wey focus on women for Lagos. The programme aim to equip women with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills wey dem need to enter Nigeria film and television production space, especially for roles behind the camera.

Throughout the five days, participants receive structured lessons on important areas like camera operation, framing and composition, lighting basics, visual storytelling, and how to behave professionally on set. The training no just be classroom talk, as dem also include hands-on exercises wey simulate real film production environments, so participants fit understand how things dey work practically.

Industry professionals and facilitators guide the sessions, showing participants how cinematography take connect with the full production process. Dem also introduce them to basic production workflows to help them understand how different departments collaborate during filmmaking.

On the final day, Filmhouse Cinemas Head of Marketing, Winifred Wessels, join panel discussion wey focus on ‘Women Behind the Lens.’ She talk about the importance of inclusion, continuous learning, and how women fit build sustainable careers in technical roles for the creative industry. She also encourage participants to keep developing their skills beyond the training.

The programme end with a graduation ceremony where all participants receive certificates to recognise their completion. According to Oyinkansola Gbolagunte of Care4Her Initiative, the collaboration show strong commitment to building capacity and creating more opportunities for women in technical film roles.
