Euphoria Season Three Receives Criticism for Graphic Content and Cast Performances

The third season of Euphoria has drawn widespread criticism from fans and critics alike. Despite a reported $200 million budget and a five-year hiatus, the new series has failed to meet expectations, scoring just 42 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. Viewers have expressed discomfort with the graphic content, including scenes involving vomiting, diarrhoea, and the handling of drugs, which many found excessively disturbing. The performances of returning cast members Jacob Elordi and Sydney Sweeney have also been scrutinised, with fans suggesting Elordi appeared unmotivated and Sweeney participated in scenes they described as humiliating. Critics have highlighted the season’s reliance on shock value and explicit sexual content, rather than strong storytelling. Major publications such as The Guardian and The Telegraph condemned the series, describing it as ‘grubby and desperate’ and a reflection of the creator’s fixation on sexualised fantasy. Despite this backlash, the network HBO has not confirmed whether the third season will be the series’ conclusion, though Zendaya hinted it might be.
