Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights Trailer Promises a Visually Charged Adaptation

Emerald Fennell, known for her Oscar-winning film *Promising Young Woman* and the thriller *Saltburn*, has unveiled the first trailer for her highly anticipated adaptation of Emily Brontë’s 1847 novel *Wuthering Heights*. The trailer showcases a provocative reinterpretation of the classic tale, highlighting themes of passion, sexual tension, and intense visual imagery. The film stars Margot Robbie, Jacob Elordi, and Owen Cooper, with Elordi appearing topless in scenes that hint at erotic undertones far beyond the original novel’s more restrained portrayal of love and obsession. The film’s stylistic choices align with Fennell’s penchant for heightened emotional stakes, similar to those seen in *Saltburn*. The trailer hints at the simmering sexual tensions between the central characters, Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff, in the rugged Yorkshire Dales. The film is set to release on Valentine’s Day next year and features music by Charli XCX, with a haunting score by Anthony Willis. Despite the intense reaction to Elordi’s casting as Heathcliff, Fennell’s artistic vision is being praised for its visual beauty and emotional depth. The adaptation follows a bidding war for its rights, eventually acquired by Warner Bros for $80 million, ensuring a wide theatrical release.
