Denis Villeneuve’s ‘Dune: Part Three’ Announced with IMAX Sequences

Denis Villeneuve’s highly anticipated third installment of the ‘Dune’ saga has officially been titled ‘Dune: Part Three.’ The film, set to adapt Frank Herbert’s 1969 novel ‘Dune Messiah,’ will continue the story of Paul Atreides as he assumes the role of emperor. Contrary to earlier reports that the entire movie would be shot using IMAX cameras, it has been confirmed that only certain sequences will utilize this technology. This follows the precedent set by Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey,’ the only film to date fully shot with IMAX’s proprietary cameras. IMAX CEO Richard Gelfond mistakenly suggested that Villeneuve’s third Dune film would be filmed entirely with IMAX cameras, but a spokesperson from Legendary Entertainment clarified the production plans. Filming is expected to start soon, with Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya reprising their roles, alongside Jason Momoa, who will return after being absent in the second movie. Villeneuve previously stated that ‘Dune: Part Three’ would not be the conclusion of a trilogy, but rather a unique continuation with its own identity. The film is slated for release in December 2026.
