Creative Spark Program Equips Tanzanian Women with Skills and Opportunities in Film Industry
The Creative Spark programme has been officially launched in Dar es Salaam by We Media in partnership with MultiChoice Tanzania, aiming to reduce the gender gap in Tanzania’s creative sector, especially in the film industry. The training, which runs from March 2 to March 6, 2026, marks the second phase of an initiative that started last year to build women’s capacity in film content creation.
Speaking during the launch, Emanuel Ndumukwa, Director of Film Development at the Tanzania Film Board, described the programme as an important step towards ensuring women get equal opportunities in the film industry. He encouraged participants to use the training to improve their professional standards and reminded them to register with the Film Board to obtain recognised certification that will protect their careers and strengthen the credibility of the industry.
Nancy, Finance Manager at We Media, explained that the programme is designed to provide women with creative skills, leadership training and growth opportunities in a sector that has historically been dominated by men. Evelyn Byaruhanga, Head of Channels for Maisha Magic Poa and Maisha Magic Bongo, said the initiative also focuses on building confidence among women and increasing their understanding of the industry.
Film producer Kefa Igilo highlighted the importance of women’s creativity and leadership in improving the quality and competitiveness of Tanzania’s film content. One participant, Asia Rajabu from the University of Dar es Salaam, said the training has helped her learn how to produce professional film content while respecting her religious values.
Overall, the Creative Spark programme is seen as a strategic effort to empower Tanzanian women with practical skills, industry networks and formal recognition in the country’s growing film market.
