‘Jurassic World Rebirth,’ the seventh installment in the Jurassic franchise, is expected to earn between $100 million and $125 million over the extended Fourth of July holiday weekend. Although the film has a significant production cost of $180 million, it doesn’t need to reach the billion-dollar mark to be considered a success. The movie follows a top-secret mission to locate dinosaurs whose DNA holds the key to a revolutionary drug capable of curing heart disease. Directed by Gareth Edwards and starring Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali, ‘Rebirth’ seeks to reset the franchise after the conclusion of the previous ‘Jurassic World’ trilogy. While early reviews are mixed, with a 54% average on Rotten Tomatoes, some critics praise the film for returning to a tone more in line with Steven Spielberg’s 1993 original. Comparatively, previous ‘Jurassic World’ films like ‘Jurassic World’ (2015) and ‘Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom’ (2018) opened to much higher numbers, with $208 million and $148 million, respectively. Universal is hoping for sustained interest from moviegoers to launch a new trilogy based on this latest installment.
