Gurinder Chadha’s New Film ‘Christmas Karma’ Offers a Bollywood Twist on A Christmas Carol

Gurinder Chadha, director of the 2002 hit *Bend It Like Beckham*, has ventured into holiday filmmaking with her latest project, *Christmas Karma*. This Bollywood-inspired musical is a fresh take on Charles Dickens’ *A Christmas Carol*, with a diverse cast including Kunal Nayyar, Hugh Bonneville, Pixie Lott, and Boy George. Set in modern-day Britain, the film follows Mr. Sood, a contemporary Scrooge figure, who embarks on a transformative journey of redemption after being visited by three ghosts. The film brings in themes of migration, empathy, and generosity while incorporating vibrant Bollywood-style song and dance. It also features a nod to Christmas music, including a tribute to George Michael with Bollywood superstar Priyanka Chopra singing a desi version of *Last Christmas*. Chadha, also working on a *Bend It Like Beckham* sequel, expressed the challenges of following up her iconic film. *Christmas Karma* hits cinemas on November 14, 2025, blending British and Bollywood traditions in a holiday story with a deep cultural resonance.
