Angelina Jolie Honors Rising Stars and Humanitarian Voices at Chopard Gala During Cannes

Angelina Jolie took on an honorary role at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, serving as the Godmother of Chopard’s annual gala, where she presented the Trophée Chopard to emerging talents Marie Colomb and Finn Bennett. Though not attending with a film, Jolie made a strong humanitarian statement during her speech at the event, held at Carlton Beach and attended by prominent figures like Quentin Tarantino, Halle Berry, and Juliette Binoche. She emphasized the power of international cinema to foster empathy and called attention to artists who lost their lives in conflict zones such as Gaza, Sudan, and Ukraine. Her message underscored the importance of freedom of expression and the role of storytelling in human rights advocacy. The event also saw a heartfelt acceptance from Bennett, who praised Jolie’s humanitarian work. The evening was planned to conclude with a musical performance by Carla Bruni, but she withdrew due to excessive noise from a neighboring party. Bruni later expressed her frustration on Instagram. Despite this, the gala highlighted the intersection of art, activism, and global cinema at one of the film industry’s most celebrated festivals.
